What is the best part of your day?
I'm going to tweak this question to best part of the week - and that would be our Thursday office hours. As the folks in that meeting have heard me say, "it's my favorite meeting of the week." It's just a friendly, laid back space, where folks that work in finance talk about finance. sometimes folks aren't in a talking mood and we'll be in and out, other times it just takes one person to ask a question and it will send us down a path and next thing you know we've been talking/answering each other's questions for 45 minutes.

What is your favorite part about working at the School of Engineering?
Hands down, the best part about working at the Engineering School is the people. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside some truly incredible colleagues who make even the busiest days more enjoyable. I also feel incredibly lucky that I’ve had the chance to work with both my mom and now my husband here.
Fun fact: my mom, Clara Fortune, who works in SEAS Post-Award—was actually pregnant with me while she worked in ECE many moons ago. So in a way, I've been connected to the E-School my whole life!
That personal connection has really deepened my commitment to the School. This place feels like home, and I care deeply about the people and the mission we support here every day.
I've also been really fortunate to build strong relationships with our students. Watching them grow, supporting their journey, and celebrating their successes is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. It reminds me why we do what we do!
Where did you go to school/get your degree?
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. I majored in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations, and I also minored in Criminal Justice. I graduated in May 2009. Radford University provides a comprehensive and hands-on education, especially in areas like communications, criminal justice, and other social sciences.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love spending time with my family. Our daughter, Rylie, is an amazing athlete, especially in softball, and my son, Jayce, is also a great athlete. It's always fun to support them and watch them excel in their sports. My husband and I both play competitive adult slow pitch softball, which is a great way for us to bond and try to stay fit.
In addition to family activities, I run my own small business, Soulful Purpose Designs, where I create custom T-shirts, jerseys, fan gear, and more. It’s a creative outlet for me, and I enjoy connecting with people through my designs. So, between spending time with my family, staying active in sports, and running my business, my free time is always filled with something I truly enjoy!
